Haul: NYX Cosmetics

22 Jun

A month or so ago, NYX had their 12 year anniversary sale where almost all products were $1.20.  Because this is such a great deal, maneuvering around the website was as slow as a can be, and nearly impossible.  I was able to add products to my cart, but was never able to check out after 2+ hours of trying (yes, I am ashamed).  Many other people had the same problems, or worse, so NYX came out with a 50% off code plus free shipping to those who were not able to make a purchase.  I took advantage of this and here is what I got:

Champagne and Caviar 10 Color Runway Palette

Did you purchase anything from either of the NYX sales? If so, what?  What do you particularly love from NYX?  Anything you dislike?  Have you tried any of these items?  Let me know!

Mail Call Monday

23 May

Mondays can be rough.  To make it better, I want to help to remind you that you might be expecting some great things in the mail from the previous weekend’s shopping!  So tell me, what are you expecting in the mail this week?  Or anything else you purchased in store this week and are loving?  Did any of you find any great sales this weekend?

I was pretty bad and purchased a few things over the weekend.  I was unable to get through on the NYX anniversary sale.   I got all the way to adding all the items to my cart, but was never able to check out.  However, they were giving everyone 50% off codes who weren’t able to make a purchase so I bought a few blushes and eyeshadows.  Unfortunately, I think it could be weeks until I see those items.

Also, Stila is currently holding their friends and family (until Tuesday, May 24th with code: FRIENDS11) so I placed an order for a few eyeshadow palettes with them as well.

The last thing I ordered was the Smashbox Tinted Moisturizer because in the summer I don’t like to wear much makeup, if any.  However, I wanted to a tinted moisturizer for nights that I went out and things like that.  I decided on Smashbox’s because I heard it was relatively good for oily skin.  I also plan to pick up Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer in the next few weeks as well.

Blush Challenge: Blushes 14-18

21 Apr

Here is this past week’s blush update that I wore.  I only have five so I either misplaced a blush, or I didn’t wear any blush Saturday or Sunday. I think the reason is probably the latter.  Anyway the blushes I wore are as follows:

Blush Challenge: Blushes 7-13

21 Apr

Last week was extremely busy and got away from me.  I kept up with my blush challenge of wearing a different blush everyday, but I did not have time to blog about it.  Today I am doing last weeks and this weeks blushes.  This is last weeks and the blushes I wore are as follows:

Beauty Challenge: Different Blush Everyday (Blushes 1-6)

7 Apr

I have completed week of of my beauty challenge where  I wear a new blush everyday.  It has already been hard for me because it is so easy to get into a routine and stick with it. I also find that I particularly like a blush I wore the previous day, and find myself wanting to wear that blush again.  However, I have stuck with it and been successful so far.

Here are the first six blushes I’ve worn:

  1. NYX Silky Rose
  2. Wet ‘n Wild Pearlescent Pink
  3. ELF  Peachy Keen
  4. ELF blush in the blushed/bronzed duo
  5. MAC Pink Cult (LE)
  6. MAC Sur (LE)

I have included pictures of each blush as well as swatches:

St. Patrick’s Day Makeup

13 Mar

St. Patty’s Day is this Thursday and I couldn’t be more excited.  I already have my outfit(s) planned, but I still am a bit unsure of how to do my makeup.  I think I want something relatively natural.  I have  both the Kat Von D and the Maybelline palettes shown below so I’ll probably use one of those for a natural eye.  If you are still unsure like me, I have some great picks for makeup!  I have also included makeup that can be worn very naturally all the way to being extremely dramatic!

Don’t be scared to experiment and go all out, especially if you are going out at night!  While browsing the websites, I personally found that Urban Decay and NYX had the best selection of different kinds of greens, such as eyeshadow, pencil liners, bases, and false eyelashes.

Do you have any plans for St. Patty’s day? If so, what?  How are you going to do your makeup?

Thursday Tutorial: February Birthstone (Amethyst)

10 Feb

I’ve decided to start a series of monthly tutorials using each month’s birthstone.  February’s birthstone is Amethyst, a violet variety of quartz.

The Greeks believed it protected the owner from drunkness; they wore amethyst and made drinking vessels of it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Amethyst occurs in primary hues from a light pinkish violet to a deep purple. Amethyst may exhibit one or both secondary hues, red and blue. methyst is produced in abundance from the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil where it occurs in large geodes within volcanic rocks.  (All information from Wikipedia).

I have included both a daytime, and night time look using purple and pinks.  These looks would also be perfect for Valentines Day as well.

  • As shown in tutorial:

  • Swatches (so you can use similar items from your collection if you do not have the exact items used!)

From L to R:  NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Lavender, Pink from NYX Versus palette, lavender from NYX Versus palette, lid color from Maybelline Amethyst Smokes, Crease from Amethyst smokes, Wet ‘n Wild Brulee.

    30 for 30: Days 1-10

    31 Jan

In an effort not to save money, and begin using things that I have not yet used, I decided to start a 30-for-3o.  Basically, I have to use at least 0ne new item everyday, that I have not yet worn out, for the next 30  days.  So far, I have found some really great products, as well as some not so great ones.  I enjoy having to challenge myself a little bit in the mornings and think up a new look, specifically with eyeshadow.  Here are the first 10 days:

    • Day 1 – ELF eyeshadow quad in Butternut

    • Day 2 – Urban Decay Naked palette

    • Day 3 – NYX blush in Silky Rose

    • Day 4 – NYX blush in Spice

    • Day 5 – NYX 10 Color Runway palette in Catwalk

    • Day 6 – Stila Make An Impression In Moscow travel palette

    • Day 7 – Wet ‘n Wild Brulee

    • Day 8 – ELF Studio single eyeshadow in Coffee Bean

    • Day 9 – ELF essentials bronzer in Warm Tan

    • Day 10 – ELF essentials bronzer in Sun Kissed

    All images from google images.

Overall, I  loved everyday, except for days 9 and 10.   I used the bronzers as eyeshadows because immediately after swatching them I realized they were way too shimmery to actually use as a bronzer, especially since I have oily skin.  Instead, I decided to use them as eyeshadows since they had a really nice color. I used the Warm Tan in my crease which was barely noticeable.  I think it could be nice if you are going for the barely there, my eyes but better type of look.  On day 10, I used the Sun Kissed as an all-over lid color with a NYX jumbo eye pencil as a base under neath.  I thought this really helped the pigmentation, but I just did not like the look I created overall.  Since usginthe Wet ‘n Wild Brulee I have begun using it almost everyday and am absolutely in love with it!
