Haul: NYX Cosmetics

22 Jun

A month or so ago, NYX had their 12 year anniversary sale where almost all products were $1.20.  Because this is such a great deal, maneuvering around the website was as slow as a can be, and nearly impossible.  I was able to add products to my cart, but was never able to check out after 2+ hours of trying (yes, I am ashamed).  Many other people had the same problems, or worse, so NYX came out with a 50% off code plus free shipping to those who were not able to make a purchase.  I took advantage of this and here is what I got:

Did you purchase anything from either of the NYX sales? If so, what?  What do you particularly love from NYX?  Anything you dislike?  Have you tried any of these items?  Let me know!

3 Jun

I made a few purchases over the past few weeks and here is what showed up in the mail over the last week!

  • Allure Makeup Bag

I honestly have no idea why I got this.  It came in the mail one day, and I think it might have been through P&G brands.

  • Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer

I have been using the regularly over the past couple days, and so far I think I like it.  Full review coming soon.

  • Stila Order
    • Beach Palettes
    • It Girl Palette

Beach Palette in Haute in the Hamptons

I have not had time to extensively play with these palettes.  However, my initial thoughts and opinions are that this palette is one you could easily (and I advise you to) skip.  The pigmentation is relatively poor, which could be because most of the shades are matte.  Also, all of the colors are extremely easy to dupe.

Beach Palette in Stunning In Sayulita (sorry for upside down pic)

While playing around with this palette, I found the colors more pigmented than the previous palette and could justify buying this one again, as I also think the colors are gorgeous.

It Girl Palette

Have you tried any of these products that I picked up?  Are there any you had your eye on for a while?  What have you bought lately? Let me know!

Shopping Cart Sunday: Stila

15 May
I love Stila cosmetics.  I do not have a large amount of their products, but what I do have I love.  I am wanting to try more of their products and if I were to place an order today, here is what I would add to my shopping cart.  Some of these products I have heard great things about, others I’ve had my eye on for a while, and a few are just things that stuck out to me and am curious to try.

I simply want this powder because of the gorgeous detailing.  I have only seen one blog post about this powder so I do not have a great idea on what to expect quality wise, but it’d be worth it simply because of the packaging.

One of my favorite things about Stila is their palettes.  I love the design and colors.  I love the neutrals of this palette and have been wanting Kitten for a long time now, which is included in the palette.  They also include a convertible color and a lip glaze in Guava as well.  Such a great deal!

As explained above, I love the palette, the colors, and the mascara included!

Stila debuted this pallete around Earth Day.  I simply love the colors.  That’s all I can say.

I have heard people rave continuously about these eyeliner pencils.  I am not a huge eyeliner junkie as I hardly wear it.   My eyeliner of choice is the Urban Decay 24/7 liner pencils, but I have a feeling these could also become a favorite!

I have a few Convertible Colors from the travel palettes they introduced last year and I love everything about them from the payoff, to the color and consistency.  I need to get my hands on more stat!  The color shown is gladiola, a bright orange that is perfect for summer!

I have recently been in love with all lip color sticks and for only $16 I could not imagine resisting trying these gorgeous shades from the Smile in Style set!

I have a few of their travel palettes from last year and I really enjoyed them.  This year they removed the Convertible Color and added a blush and highlighter/bronzer. So far they have come out with two and I love the colors in both palettes!

What do you think about Stila cosmetics? Have you tried any of these products? What  are your favorites and least favorite products you’ve tried?  Anything else you think I should check out from them? Let me know!

Haul: Urban Decay

19 Apr

About a month ago Urban Decay was on Hautelook, a site I am aboslutely obsessed with.  In the past I haven’t been interested in the Urban Decay products they’ve had but this time around there was a lot I was loving! I only ended up getting two things, but am happy with both of my purchases!

First, I got the Afterglow powder blush in Score.  It is a gorgeous peachy-pink shade with a subtle sheen.  Many of my blushes are similar to this including Sleek Rose Gold, Wet ‘n Wild Pearlescent Pink, and maybe an ELF, Cover Girl, LORAC, and Clinique one that I have as well.  I plan on doing a post comparing all of these blushes in the next week or so.  Anyway, the blush has great pigmentation but is smaller than I expected at only  .13 grams.  I am not sure if this is the normal size of their blushes, but it is smaller than I was expecting it to be.  This retails for about $21 and I got it for $10.

The Summer of Love palette is a gorgeous neutral palette with a bright purple; all my favorite colors!   It comes with a mini 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Bourbon and a mini Primer Potion in Sin, which has a metallic coloring.  I have not had the chance to wear this yet, but based on swatching I have formed a few first impressions.  I love their 24/7 pencils so I was extremely excited about Bourbon, they glide on extremely smoothly and easily and they are extremely long wearing as well.  I am excited to try Sin Primer Potion as I think it’ll be a gorgeous base.  All of the eye shadow colors are gorgeous, and perfect for summer, as the palette is named for it.  They all have a good pigmentation; however, I think Maui Wowie could have some serious fallout problems as there is chunks of glitter and it already spread on my hand just from swatching.  If planning to wear that shade, take extra precautions.

Top to bottom:
Flash, Maui Wowie, Chopper, Smog

I know the swatches are small (and poor quality as it was taken with a camera phone), but I believe you should be able to click on them and see them at full size for a better idea of what the products and colors look like.

I plan to do a full in-depth review of the Summer of Love palette once I have a chance to experiment a bit more with that, so stay tuned!

Have you tried any of these products?  What do you think of Urban Decay in general? Any products you specifically love, or even hate?  What are your opinions of Hautelook?  Let me know!

Spring 2011 Makeup Trends

19 Mar

Spring is full of bold colored makeup.  While I am not one to wear any colored makeup (besides the occassional purple), I do love looking at it and thinks it looks gorgeous on others.  Don’t worry if you are like me and are more of a neutral-lover because there are plenty of  trends that you can try as well!  I have gathered some of the top makeup trends that were on the runway and will be seen around all season long!

  • Bold Lips – From reds, to oranges, corals, and hot pinks – bright, bold lips were seen at almost every show!  Make sure to wear this with your confidence!

  • Bright Eye Shadow – Bright eye shadows were seen all over the runway with colors including pink, blue, orange, and peach.  Jewel tones, yellow, and purple eyeshadows are some specific hot colors!  Don’t be afraid to experiment!

  • Glowing skin – Glowing skin often goes with a natural looking face, which never actually goes out of style!  Luckily, all of us oily-skinned ladies have this one in the bag, but there are plenty of products that will give you a natural, fresh glowing look!

  • Eyeliner – Many artists and designers put an emphasis on eyeliner within the eyes.  The winged liner to create a cat-eye was common, but liner can also be a great, more subtle way to try a bold color!

  • Smoky Eyes – If you aren’t comfortable with such bright eyeshadow colors, then the smoky eyeshadow look may be for you!  As you can tell, with such a range of eyeshadow colors, whatever looks best and works for you will always be in style!

  • Metallics – Silver, gold, and bronzed metallic colors can be the perfect accent to a more nude and natural look.   They will be big this season and can look great on all skin tones!

What did you think?  Will you be trying any trends? What ones will you be passing on?  Are you more likely to experiment with makeup trends over the hair, nail, or fashion trends?  Any trends I missed? Let me know!

St. Patrick’s Day Makeup

13 Mar

St. Patty’s Day is this Thursday and I couldn’t be more excited.  I already have my outfit(s) planned, but I still am a bit unsure of how to do my makeup.  I think I want something relatively natural.  I have  both the Kat Von D and the Maybelline palettes shown below so I’ll probably use one of those for a natural eye.  If you are still unsure like me, I have some great picks for makeup!  I have also included makeup that can be worn very naturally all the way to being extremely dramatic!

Don’t be scared to experiment and go all out, especially if you are going out at night!  While browsing the websites, I personally found that Urban Decay and NYX had the best selection of different kinds of greens, such as eyeshadow, pencil liners, bases, and false eyelashes.

Do you have any plans for St. Patty’s day? If so, what?  How are you going to do your makeup?

Today I’m Loving: Stila Trio in Champagne Glow

10 Mar

Image from Google Images

This is my second “Today I’m Loving” post for the day but today just happened to be a great makeup day!  Now this does not happen very often, so when it does I have to spread the word and count my blessings!

Today was the first day I had tried the Stila Champagne Glow eyeshadow trio (always a risky move).   I used the pink color all over my lid and the brown in my outer-v and crease area.  I then used a matte  eyeshadow as a highlight because the other two shadows had shimmer.  The eye turned out as a gorgeous neutral eye that is perfect for everyday!  Needles to say, I will be reaching for this quite frequently!

30 for 30 Challenge: Items 20 – 30

7 Mar
  • NYC Blushable Cream Stick in Mauvin’ Uptown

farthest on the right

  • Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy (LE) Palette
  • ECO tools eye brush: shader and blending brush

  • NYC Individual Eyes Custom Eye Palette for Brown Eyes in Union Square

  • ELF Brownstone eyeshadow quad

  • ELF Luxe eyeshadow quad

  • ELF Hazy Hazel eyeshadow quad

  • ELF Shimmmer Eye Liner in Precious Pink

  • ELF shimmer eyeliner in Blissful Blush

  • Coastal Scents Fall Festival palette

All images from google images.

I was really happy with most of the products in this last section. I was the most shocked with the ELF eyeshadow quads.  Not necessarily with the quality (which isn’t too bad), but I was surprised at the looks that I could create using just the quad.  It turned out really nice and worked great!  So far, I did not love the Ecotools as much as I had been hoping too.  The quality is great, with the brushes being incredibly soft.  However, I thought the shader was too long and thin (not dense enough) and the blending brush was quite large for my eyes

I am so glad to be done with this challenge!  It did take me more than 30 days because I did not wear makeup everyday. This helped me to realize the ridiculous amount of make up I do actually have (particularly eyeshadow).  I can’t wait to start regularly using some of the great eye looks I found through this challenge!

30 for 30 Challenge: Items 10-20

4 Mar

  • ELF All Over Cover Stick in Pink Lemonade

  • ELF All Over Cover Stick in Lilac Petal

  • NYX Bronze Smokey Look Palette

  • ELF Natural Eye Palette

  • NYC Blushable Cream Stick in Plaza Pink,  Berry New Yorker, and  Big Apple Blush

  • Bare Minerals Foundation in Light

  • Coastal Scents eye brush

Unlike my first 10 items, a majority of these items did not impress me as much, and I could probably live without most of these items.   The items that I was particularly impressed with were the NYC Blushable Creme Sticks.   I bought these last summer, but never used them after swatching them on my hand.  To me, they seemed very dry and hard to work with.  However, after warming it up on my hand, applying with a stippling brush, and then using a buffer  brush to buff it out, they worked great!  They also had good lasting power!  All the other products (besides the Bare Minerals) just seemed ‘meh’ to me.

Have you tried any of these products?  If so, what did you think about them?  If you have any further questions or want other information let me know!  Hope you enjoyed!
